Nigeria New cash policy: Some simple tips to secure your account

There is short supply of computers or hand held devices that could be use for bank transaction in Nigeria. To put it simply,  not every Nigerian can afford a computer nor get an internet connection; also the numbers of Nigerians that can use the internet moderately is low. For those that can use the internet and those that are willing to learn I must tell you its not a big deal; for a three weeks-three hours per week internet proficiency class, you would be more than ready to effectively use the internet.

Once you are able to use the internet then you are ready to use the internet for online banking, the following tips should in addition to other established online  banking security help in one way or the other:

1. Don't respond to emails requesting you to send your account or card details for any form of processing, banking procedures, bank reconciliations, updates using any banking 'jargon' to sound convincing.

2. You could use two accounts; one accounts could be meant for all forms of withdrawals of any kind, from ATM withdrawals, payments that have already been confirmed, over the counter withdrawals, etc. This accounts only get the basic amount needed to meet ones monthly usage for corporate organization and weekly for individual usage.

the other account could serve as the account where money are kept and from time to time some are transferred to your withdrawal account as need may arise. By doing this you ensure that any fraudulent transfers could be traced; whether 'in-bank' or out-of-bank' frauds

3. When you receive an email to click to open your account page, don't click rather type the bank correct internet address to go view your account page. This is an easy way for you to be directed to fake websites that may look like the one you are used they get to know you pin number or other accounts details.

4. If you use cyber cafe, you are of a greater risk, because things could be done before you arrive or after you leave the cafe that may put your account  at risk. First, you are not sure the computer has up to date anti virus,
secondly, you can't be sure if a malicious person just left the system or cafe you are patronizing, thirdly, light weight programs called cookies could inadvertently save your banking session in the computer

5. Always log out your banking session after every successful login for any transaction session. You should not allow the browser to save your password, pin or any other details
