The governor, who was speaking during the launching of the state Free Eye Care Programme at Sir Sunusi Hospital in Kano said that the government keen in ensuring that they complete their studies so that they fill the vacuum in certain critical areas of the economy, especially the health sector of the state.
He therefore, maintained that despite financial challenges facing the country presently as a result of dwindling oil revenue the state government will do its best to ensure that the students pursuing different undergraduate and post graduate courses in several countries continue their academic pursuit unhindered. He noted that the financial situation is not peculiar to Kano state but it is a national problem.
He observed that there is a calculated attempt, which will certainly fail, by some unscrupulous elements to pitch the present administration against the immediate past administration of which "I was part and parcel of as the former deputy governor and commissioner of local governments."
Dr. Ganduje reiterated that "as the then Deputy Governor this government is a continuation of the Kwankwaso administration as I was part of all the decisions that were taken, including the sponsorship of our students to foreign universities.
He then warn the students to follow due process in presenting their problem and stop being used in blackmailing the government by rushing to the media and "lodge their complains."
Further allaying fears of parents in particular, the governor maintained that his administration would make funds available to the students duly, to enable them to conclude their studies and return to the country as scheduled earlier.
The governor stated that this apart, the government also intends to give more emphasis on technical and vocational courses so as to build their capacities for self employment and economic progression.
“We understand that unemployment is a major problem in our society and one of the best ways to tackle it is to help build the skills of our youths so that they would not have to wait for non-existent white collar jobs”, the governor asserted.
Governor Ganduje promised that the state government would also maintain the local scholarship scheme for its students, explaining that the aim is to make the state a knowledge driven society that would be a model in the country. In this regard the government will continue to support the Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil and complete the permanent site of the North West University.
