( Bulldozer demolishing houses at Alhudahuda College, Zaria)

Following expiration of 3 week notice served on the occupants of Alhudahuda College, Zaria in Kaduna State from July, 14th to August, 4th Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority has demolished no fewer 93 houses said to have been built illegally for quite number of years.
Speaking in an interview with Journalists on the scene General Manager of the agency, Mrs Saratu Haruna said that the exercise houses whose occupants didn’t comply with directive of the state Government through her Agency.
She explained that the 3 week notice served them was enough for them to remove their structures and relinquish the land as directed Government since they acquired land through encroachment into the land.
The General Manager pointed out that the exercise would also be carried in Government’s Schools and Hospitals across the State.
Members of households who spoke with Newsdiaryonline expressed bitterness on the exercise, saying that the State Government had not been fair to them.
Mallam Sani Dan-Kura a resident explained that the 3 week notice was enough for them to remove their structures because of the hardship they were experiencing.
Mallam Dan-Kura complained the affected people didn’t have where to take families sincethey didn’t have money to rent houses to settle elsewhere.
He further complained that to get a house to rent was a problem, adding that they have now been rendered home less.
The resident therefore called on the State Government to compensate them with a view to cushioning the effect of what he termed a disaster.
