Corruption is the greatest treat of sound leadership. Africa is self sufficient and self sustaining. Corruption has made countries unable to cater for its citizens. In the early years of the American Revolution when leaders emerged from among the ordinary folks, when the welfare of the people was the driving force, when their heart beat reverberated with compassion for the common man and his predicament; these leaders were perceived as divine. However, when leadership anywhere begin to take advantage of their roles as leaders, when the noble ideals of leaderships are sacrificed on the altar of self assertion, things can quickly begin to fall apart.
You may ask?
- What trait did they possess that made them eligible for leadership?
- What was their thinking like before leadership was handed to them?
- What single thing or action brought about the sudden collapse of these note worthy task?
- Why did they change focus?
What trait did they possess that made them eligible for leadership?
Knowledge alone is not guarantee for leadership but it place a great roll in this regard; as it is remarked ‘…if you aren’t informed, you get deformed…’ You know for sure that a leader does not just fall from the sky; they were all born and grow up in a neighborhood like every other person. They have ordinary parents like you and I. some of them had very horrible childhood, a past they hate to remember. And as they grow and mature they pick up certain character that helps them to reason independently from others and begin to see things apart from the crowed.
They tend to develop poise such that they don’t get easily put off balance by sudden occurrences rather remain calm and fashion ways out of any given challenge. They have a great capacity to accommodate different shades of opinion and are not upset about divergent views; they seem to forgive often and easily and are compassionate towards others.
They are motivated to dream of a change, a better life for others for their world, they believe in this dream so much that they are willing to stake all to put the dream across. Leaders are dreamers and great leaders are great dreamers.
They have an eye for opportunity though not opportunist; they take opportunity with both hands not primarily for self but for the sake of others. The passion they have for their dream alone is enough persuasion for others to follow.
They may not be experts in rhetoric speeches but the compassion and dept in their voice elicits immediate response and actions if required.
They are in the for-front of execution and implementation of their dreams, their hearts are their words and their word is their life.
